The Land and Water Boards of the Mackenzie Valley have completed, and are pleased to present, a comprehensive draft policy framework related to community engagement and Board consultation under the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act (MVRMA).

The MVLWB has re-issued its Clarification of Spill Reporting Expectations notice to correct an error in the first bullet of the previous notice.

The Board regrets any inconvenience this error may have caused.

Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada has released the 2010 Northwest Territories Environmental Audit.

The Audit examines the state of the NWT’s environment, cumulative impact monitoring, and the regulatory regime.  Read the details of the MVLWB perspectives on the 2010 NWT Environmental Audit. Featuring quotes from two MVLWB Chairs, this news release outlines the Board’s points of view on the second NWT Environmental Audit.  The audit is carried out every five years under Part 6 of the MVRMA.

This determination, made in August by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and the Board pursuant to section 98 of the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act, clarifies land use permitting authorities within city limits, ensuring that anyone undertaking work which requires a permit for land use knows who is responsible for issuing which permit.  For more information about this determination, visit this handy 

The latest edition of the Newsletter of the Land and Water Boards of the Mackenzie Valley features articles about various aspects of our regulatory work and a summary of permit, licence, and plan activities.

The Draft Engagement Policy and the Draft Guidelines for Applicants and Holders of Water Licences and Land Use Permits address concerns raised by Aboriginal governments/organizations and applicants to the regulatory process respecting consultation and engagement.

Applicants and holders of water licences and land use permits will now need to refer to the Standards for Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Submissionsand the Document Submission Standards when submitting applications, plans, reports, GIS data, and other material related to their developments.
